As a study before the project was realized “Sempervivum tectorum_Mountain to mountain” is a one channel documentary short film and shows the backstory of where the video work “Sempervivum”began. In the Film locations switch from scenes in the Alpes and Institut for spacial botanic, in fall of 2016 at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz Germany. The first part was shot in summer of 2015 on location in the French & Italian Alpes during the PhD journey of botanist. Hyeongsuk Kim was involved in this trip while researching plant associated with Fibonacci numbers. His journey warplanes over a time period of two month and Hyeongsuk Kim participated for two weeks in Alpes. His research aimed to find the ancestors of Sempervivum Tectorum, a succulent plant in the Rhine region in Germany. The second part was filmed in fall of 2016 at the greenhouse, botanic garden and at his main research laboratory where he tries to find the ancestors of Sempervivum Tectorum. The film also gives the viewer the feeling of finding himself from giant mountains by continuing his research to find further predecessors to Sempervivum Tectorum.
Der Teil ”Mountain to mountain,2016” ist ein ein kanaliger Dokumentar-Kurzfilm, mit dem ursprünglich das gesamte Projekt “Sempervivum” began. Die Filmlokationen wechseln von den Alpen im Sommer 2015 zum Institut für Spezielle Botanik an der Johannes Gutenberg University im Herbst 2016. Der erste Abschnitt ist in den französischen und Italienischen Alpen im Sommer 2015, während der Promotionsreise von Armin G Fabritzek, gedreht worden. Hyeongsuk Kim reiste für zwei Wochen mit dem Botaniker mit und assoziierte die Erforschung von Pflanzen mit der Fibonacci-Folge. Seine Forschung zielte darauf ab, die Vorfahren des Sempervivum Tectorum zu finden, eine Sukkulente im Rheintal in Deutschland. Der zweite Teil ist im Herbst 2016 im Gewächshaus des botanischen Gartens und im Institut für Spezielle Botanik an der Johannes Gutenberg Universität Mainz, im Forschungslabor des Botanikers, gefilmt worden. DEr Film zeigt, wie sich angesichts des Gebirges die einzelne Person immer mehr verliert und es gerade dadurch zu einem Prozess der Selbstfindung kommt. Gleichzeitig spiegelt es auch die Arbeitsweise eines Künstlers.
